History About Asmara
The city of Asmara which is the capital city of Eritrea, also known as Asmera, arose by the union of four villages in the 1100s . In 1889 it became colony of Italy , became national capital in 1897. Most of the center of the city was built by the Italians in the 1930s . The Italian colonial era greatly influenced the infrastructure, architecture and cuisine of Asmara which is the capital city of Eritrea, which was called at that time as “Piccola Roma” (Little Rome). At present, most of the buildings are of neo-Roman, Victorian and Art-Deco style and some places have names in Italian language.

Asmara public transport consists of buses and minibuses, which are the most economical way to get around the city. Buses are often crowded and do not have scheduled schedules. There are regular and shared taxis that are in the airport and the most important hotels. The city is small enough to be walked. You can rent cars in Asmara for short trips out of town.
